Global Context
There is more then one car for every seven people on earth. “Ward's reports that there are 1.3 people for every car in the U.S., while in China there are 6.75 people per vehicle. If China were to have as many cars per capital as the U.S., its fleet alone would amount to approximately one billion cars.” Huffington Post (Number of Cars Worldwide Surpasses 1 Billion; Can The World Handle This Many Wheels?) Also not all parts of a car are made in America. According to Craig Howie correspondent of AOL Autos “These days, automakers manufacture and assemble vehicle parts all over the globe…” In other words our cars are not made in just one place even if they are made by American manufactures our parts are made around the globe which puts an even bigger impact in the world because car parts are being imported and exported everywhere.
Earth's mightiest heroes
A single tree intakes 48 pounds of CO2 a year. (American Forrest) According to Earth policy.org there are 4 billion hectares (2.47 acres equals 1 Hectares). That means there around 9,880,000,000 acres. There are 43,560 square feet in an acre. so that means there are 430,372,800,000,000 square feet of trees in the world. If we assume that each tree takes up 10 square feet that would mean there around 43,037,280,000,000 tress. Which means 2,065,789,440,000,000 pounds of CO2 is being absorbed annually, but forest are rapidly being torn down. At rate of 16 million hectares of trees a year. That's 39,520 acres of trees. (172,149,120 trees)
